|
|
In the last few months I have become obsessed with the probability of orbs landing on my side - and how I can increase it.
Often, a player has a few orbs on his side and I have none. So I do everything to make him or her not get the orbs on her side. Forcing a trade is one way, but there are other ways. Moving a piece up can often make the player move the opposite piece so they will gain the front row. This controls them and prevents them from taking their orbs.
It is amazing to me how often a player will let the orbs stay, and when new orbs come I have a greater chance of getting some on my side. I think many players just don't think about it.
What about you? - the great and almost great players of QR:
Do you play with this in mind? |

I often use the strategy of forcing a player to move up in a row rather than getting an orb, even if it seems to be to my disadvantage, or will risk losing a piece on purpose with nothing in return sometimes as well. _________________ http://putthatshitonthelist.blogspot.com |

All you Quad heros out there (Rhox, Lode, Handi, sanzo, etc), how central to your openings is this strategy?
Strategy: increasing the probability of new orbs landing on your side because the opponent has unclaimed orbs on their side. |

I have the same main focus as most other people: get 5 pieces on the front line. If I can do this and get an orb at the same time then I will, but if an orb appears out of the way I will usually ignore it until I have my line set up. If my opponent gets an orb on the way to his front line and I notice that he's advancing a lot of pieces on that side of the board, I might take some time to move my "linebackers" up to give my front line some additional support in case my opponent tries to force his way into my territory. The opening moves have become so mindless to me. Feels like the same thing almost every game. _________________

The same strategy doesn't work every time. Sometimes, you will lose entirely because of bad luck. Play another "hand" of QR and get over it. |

Well put, and I may not be a "Quad Hero" but this strat has always worked well for me. At the start of every game its my primary focus to get 5 pieces to the front. I almost completely ignore any orbs on my side until I am set up. However if an orb pops up on his side, i'll move my pieces in a way to delay him from grabbing that orb. As long as my opponent hasn't started to stack onto one side of the board ill grab what orbs I have especially if the next orb spawn in a large number. Less orbs on your side, the more room for new ones. _________________ Kick rocks pussy! |

A little tip I would like to add, if there are destroy animations going in your ground, and orbs will spawn next round wait for the animations to go off before moving. If they are in your opponent's groun instead you shoul move before they finish.
Another thing to think about: sometimes it can be good to get rid of a backword tripwired piece in your ground, just to free 1 tile for future orbs. _________________ Sanzo |

are you sure that orbs won't spawn on tiles that are currently going through the destroy animation? i think they can, actually, tho i'm not 100% sure. _________________ strategizing from a bunker |

| I actually like to collect orbs and sacrifice positioning; I can always move my pieces in the front line later even if the oponent has 6 by then. This way I have more information of what powers I possess, which can be crucial in protecting/utilizing the relevant pieces |
