Hey guys,
I'm thinking to scrap my 7 years old AMD Athlon 2500+, for something more up-to-date.
Retail stores sell crap and anyway I would probably need to change a few components to get what I want and stay within reasonable prices. Instead I decided to just build the whole computer from parts.
So far, I'm thinking of going for something like this:
CPU: Intel Q8200
GPU: ATI Radeon 5750 or GeForce GTX 260
(I think I'm going with the ATI tho)
RAM: around 4G
I'm wondering what kind of mid-quality motherboard and power supply I'd need for those. Also, DDR2 or DDR3 for ram?
I already have a cheapo SATA 300GB HD that I'd might wanna use as a secondary drive.
If you know any good forums where I could get good info on that, let me know! _________________ Handi

I recommend GIGABYTE for Mobos - they're very colorful. And well-labeled.
As for graphics card, I possess a HD 5870 and love it - however, the 5750 may be cheaper and easier to acquire, so, that's more up to you.
And, also, depending on your needs/monetary situation, I've read that an Intel i7 920 is a very capable processor.
As for RAM and such, I'm not sure; I think I bought inferior-ly speeded RAM when I built my system...
A good forum to get info that I've used was at TechSupportGuy forums, under Hardware. There may also be some help from NewEgg's support community, but I forget what it's called, nor have I used it. _________________ Changed for the sake of mobile browsers everywhere. |

Rydash might be more up to date but all my windoze boxes i built never died with ASUS mobo's
ATI also seems like the best graphics bang for bucks these days
win 7 does look good now
i think i7 might not be totally worth the dough - if you can get a great deal on a dual core and match it all up with the right memory your system will blaze. its important to get stuff that really work well together and new egg is great for that research.. same with some overclocker sites since they understand sweet spots on price/tech more than anyone
or cop out and just get a mac air.. that what i did and left my desktop at win xp P4 era |

Thanks for the advices guys. I've talked with some people and they seem to be divided equally between asus and gigabyte.
I'm not looking for a high end beast, cuz prices grow exponentially as you rise in performance. An i7 is out of the question for me, I'll stick with a Q8200 or a Q8400.
For the power supply, I'm thinking to go for a Corsair, they aren't too expensive and seem to be reliable enough. _________________ Handi

corsair for power supply? they are the best for memory but never knew they make PSUs
anything over 500 watts is usually fine.. if you are not going to overclock, it doesnt even have to be a great power supply |

Yeah, I've got a 750W Corsair...no problems yet, but, Handi, I would advise that, if you think you may be pressed for case space, a modular power supply will cut down on cord clutter. _________________ Changed for the sake of mobile browsers everywhere. |
